Why choose Lone Star Nurse Midwives?

Statistically, fetal and maternal outcomes are equally good when comparing midwife and physician births. However, midwives have significantly reduced rates of cesarean section, epidural anesthesia, induced labor, and episiotomies with no compromise in safety.

The national average for cesarean deliveries was 32% in 2015. San Antonio area hospitals had cesarean section rates ranging from 31-40% dependent on location in 2015. Lone Star Midwives primary cesarean section rate has steadily remained 10-15% annually. Our annual rate even includes cesarean sections performed for medically indicated reasons (breech presentation, maternal condition, or fetal condition).

  • 15% primary cesarean section rate

  • 85% or greater VBAC success rate

  • <1% episiotomy rate

  • 50-60% rate of epidural use
